Now that we have completed all of our projects and successfully developed our very own Content Management System (CMS), so what’s next?

This question leads us to think deeply about the direction we are going. Back to basic, we started because we see a need in our society for good design and good service. After meeting a few clients, we realized that is not all, they need good pricing too. Along our journey, we have met a few designers, some charge high but mostly charge low (to the extreme of spoiling the market). The clients are not educated about the world of design and web. It is to our responsibility to do that, I supposed. Recalling our tag line:

“Through art, we paint the walls of every street beautifully with our artistic hands.
Through design, we provide the best solutions for every problem arises in our environment.
Through service, we give our best to anyone who comes to us.
Through success, we bless those who are less fortunate than us.”

Design is not about drawing or about painting. It is about solving problem creatively (visually and logically). If there’s a need, we meet it! In Dream Accent, much effort has been put into research and experiment. When we’ve got the concrete knowledge, it is our duty to educate our clients with the current and future standard of design and technology. However, how are we going to do that? We have not done sales before and it is pretty “scary” to knock at someone’s door and offer them our service. Well Dreamers, let’s step out of our comfort zone!

We thought we were a little ambitious to develop our own CMS (as there were only 2 person working on this project) but we decided to start small and simple anyway.

Recalling the previous Jakarta trip I had last year, I went to a showroom of a high class apartment. Below are the images:

It’s posh, isn’t it? Anyway, that was just a sidetrack. When I toured around the master bedroom, there was a little white book lying on the bed. “IT’S NOT HOW GOOD YOU ARE, IT’S HOW GOOD YOU WANT TO BE”, that was the title and it’s simple enough to make me want to grab the book at The Borders.

One simple sentence meant so much to me. Often, designers feel discouraged when their works do not meet their expectation or are not good enough compared to others. However, the sentence reminds me that design is not all about talent alone but also hard work and experience. I guess that it can be applied to most aspect of our lives: business, relationship, education, etc. When one knows that he is not good enough, the most important thing is to have a humble heart and a “never give up” attitude - He must admit that he is not good enough and he has to start learning to improve himself. It was said that if you are willing to spend 5 minutes of your time focusing and practicing one particular activity daily, you will be the master of it 5 years later.

In the next few posts of our blog, we will showcase our very own designers’ past works and draft design. As we grow (as a company), we definitely want to see improvement in our work and hopefully, Dream Accent could achieve a world class design standard near future.

Currently, our space is located at Menara Thamrin (Jakarta - Indonesia). Although it is located at one of the most prestigious space in Jakarta, our office is pathetically small and not very conducive. We are sharing the space with a travel agent and we really want to thank them for lending us a few table space to do our work.

As I have traveled backto Indonesia, I explored Bandung and the place of interest. This is what I’ve found.

Tankuban Perahu is an active volcano 30 km north of the city of Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia. It’s a great place: brilliant view with perfect weather! You can actually hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot water springs upclose (that’s what I did).

We love everything that is good: “good design, good idea, good concept…” Eventually, we decided to give ourselves a chance to offer our design service to the world.

It all began with a simple dream, simple but BIG… We dreamt of becoming one of the world’s most recognized design companies that would cover all areas of design such as web, graphic, events, interior, etc. Many people would have thought that this kind of dream is just, well… a dream. Fair enough, this kind of big dream is simple to say but almost impossible to achieve. But to us, we thought we needed to start somewhere.

In mid-July 2007, this was when thing began to happened. I was still a full time student when my friend introduced me “The Secret”. This book talks about visualization and law of attraction. As you visualize and “feel” the things that you desire, the universe will arrange itself and make sure you will get what you want. Interesting? So I tried it on my own and visualized that I would set up a design company. Surprisingly, I received a call that very day from a long-lost friend who owned a entertainment company (R&R Entertainment). She wanted me to do her website. Without hesitation, I thought it was a good start and I agreed. The project turned out to be a success one.

Is there really a secret? Or is it just a coincidence?
